NOTE:John Venters was licensed in 1859 as local preacher in the Methodist Protestant Church.
He married Elizabeth Clevenger in the late 1840s. Their children: 3 daughters and 5 sons.
He enlisted with Ohio Regiment in 1861. He was killed at the Battle of Missionary Ridge,
near Chattanooga, and was buried in the National Cemetery at Chicamauga Park in 1863.
